Went back to Vals for the 3rd time ... today was for Mothers Day. Great dining experience once again .... Food is always on point n service is always great! Definitely our go to Italian joint for a slammin meal! Keep up the good work. Well b back again soon for sure!!!
I have dined at Val's many times in the past. However, this time we came for my husband's birthday with our 2 month old daughter (her first restaurant dining experience). Not only did they seat us in perfect location, but our waiter was super accommodating. He was a younger man with dark, longer, curly hair. The food was great as usual, but we were more impressed with how the staff handled our situation. Thank you for making my husband's 40th birthday dinner memorable in a good way!
We went there on Saturday, July 17th for my husband's birthday. Our usual place for special occasions is The Franklinville Inn, but we wanted to include our kids this year (11 and 13 yo), so I began soliciting recommendations and Val's seemed to come out on top. When I looked at the menu online, saw the prices and read the reviews, I assumed that we were in for a special evening. Our experience can best be described as "odd". We were seated at a large booth and the first thing that both my daughter and I noticed immediately was that on each side of the booth, there was about a 12" square of black duct tape. Ok, whatever. Then it took about 10-15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. We got our drinks and gave our appetizer order....the thai shrimp...probably the best part of the meal. It took another 10 minutes or so to get a basket of bread...same quality as my local pizza joint. My daughter ended up ordering the adult sized chicken parm. She said it was good. The rest of us ended up ordering a dish that had flounder in it. I guess that's were we went wrong. My son is a tilapia lover and we convinced him that flounder was just as mild. Mild apparently was an understatement. He said there was no taste at all. Unfortunately, I had to agree. I got the stuffed flounder and while the crab imperial was good, there was nothing special about the flounder. My husband got the flounder/scallops/crab cake/shrimp combo. Same feedback. While nothing tasted "bad", nothing really had any special flavor. It was like every piece of seafood was just placed under the broiler with zero seasonings. Sad to say, it was a very disappointing meal. We skipped dessert since there was birthday cake at home. Our bill for a family of 4 (only one appetizer and no desserts) with tip was $175. I was hoping to give my husband a memorable birthday dinner, but the most memorable part was that we got to sit on duct tape.
mapquest said 24 min took us 1 hr and half WAS WORTH ALL THE HASSLE FOOD WAS VERRRY GOOOD PEOPLE WERE VERY WARM AND FRIENDLY NOW WE KNOW HOW TO GET THERE WE WILL GO BACK
I'm very critical and when u can all around please me then you have done your job! From the friendly staff, to the ambiance, to the delicious food! I can't think of anything that could be improved except expanding so they could fit more people in! Always packed because people know where the good food is! The garlic nots, bread, soup, pizza, broiled seafood combination, snow crab legs, seafood rissotto all cooked perfectly! Waiters and waitresses friendly and knowledgable about the food! I was recently thinking about going to Philadelphia for my anniversary and decided I want to stay in NJ and go to Val's! Can't wait for my meal!
We enjoy Vals seafood, nice local casual dining. Food is really good and to my surprise, the pizza is one of the best in the area. Bring a bottle of wine and enjoy a good night out. I eat at Val's almost every week and the comment below about Joes is nonsense. Yes, some of the servers may be a little slow however if you are looking for fast food then maybe you should go to a fast food place. Thumbs up on food and service.
If the noise level and lighting were improved I'd have happily given 5 stars.
while the crabs were good, i have to say joe's is much better and the service was better and they usually have much more customers. the place did not seem overly filled so i was a little disappointed in the service
Thanks for your constructive feedback Susan. Also, I didn't know Joe's did AYCE?
This was our first time trying Val's. Will definitely be back. The food was awesome and the service was great. Thank you Amanda
Just got back from Val's for dinner! It was our first visit there after a friends recommendation. Our meal was delicious !! Can't wait to go back again. I saved room for dessert( only because I wrapped half my dinner to take home) and had the brownie blast 🙂 Try Val's you won't be disappointed !
I've been search for 3 days for a new place to get crabs that was a little nicer then the normal place. I've driven by probably a few times a month on the way to GCC and kept telling myself we would try your restaurant. We were really surprised how big your restaurant is and how good the food is. My picky son had the blacken salmon and inhaled it, my husband had mussels and loved the white sauce. I had crabs and penne pasta in your Rosa sauce and I couldn't stop eating the pasta, it was so good. Love the fact you served my favorite wine and if we weren't so stuffed
we would have had dessert. Gotta leave room for it next time.
I have driven past Val's many times, always wanting to try. Read the reviews and gave it a shot. After going last Sunday, realize it really IS as good as everyone says. Jessica provided excellent service at our table, the food was delicious --- big portions, hot and well prepared. Parted with lots of leftovers. Planning on going back again next Sunday. Oh...and a pleasant surprise...kids menu provides free meal with adult purchase on Sundays!
we went mar 22 14, I said to my friend don't be surprised if I am not happy, I know seafood and how it should be done, I don't eat seafood around here, I go to the shore, vals changed all that, she brought the shore home, thank you and please keep up the good work
My husband and I brought our 2 children and mother-in-law to your restaurant to celebrate her birthday. She has been there for dinner several other times, raving about every experience.
I was absolutely thrilled with everything about my meal, from the service (Jessica) to dessert (cannoli chips and dip! Yum!). I can't wait to return and try everything on the menu. Although, to be honest, I'm not sure what could be better than spinach ravioli with crabmeat in a blush sauce...mmmm!
Thank you for a great experience!
I won't even waste your time trying to interpret the giddiness that my mouth and taste buds experience on every visit to Vals, and the sheer joy my heart feels as I anticipate another stellar meal choice offering. If you're still reading this, then you've already wasted precious time that could have been spent eating at Vals!
We usually have our family Christmas Eve dinner at our house. However, due to work schedule I was unable to cook. Val came through with the most delicious meal ever. She made our favorites and the service, especially, Jemma, was a pure delight. Our party of 13 was set and ready when we all arrived and Joe made sure we were all comfortable. Can't say enough how Val's Seafood made our Christmas Eve dinner perfect. Thank you all and Merry Christmas.
This was our first time trying Val's. Will definitely be back. We ordered seafood and everything was fresh tasting, expertly cooked and seasoned appropriately. To top off our wonderful meal, we shared a piece of Pumpkin Cheesecake. Best cheesecake I ever had.....much better then the cheesecake then the Cheesecake Factory Restaurant. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. Keep doing what your doing....don't change a thing.
We've been visiting here often since we moved close, we've never been disappointed until this visit. We both got cheesecake to go so we could enjoy it at home..the pumpkin cheesecake had chunks of cream cheese throughout the entire piece....was awful. The oreo cheesecake tasted flavorless...not sure what happened there! But for $6 a piece, it's a disappointment.
Thanks for the email about the cheesecake..... You're right, for $12 the desserts should be a TREAT and not a disappointment ! We'll contact you privately to resolve it.
Melissa M wrote: Wow! Great customer service! We were told about your restaurant by a family friend a few months ago, and since have been back numerous times! Always a delicious meal and great service!
We greatly appreciate you [resolving the issue]. We were there this past Friday. Thanks for the prompt response!
Do your taste buds a favor & stop @ Val's....small, intimate setting lends an amazing atmosphere to experience, fresh, authentic, delicious - did I say FRESH, perfectly prepared, melt in your mouth FOOD!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE VAL'S!!! South Jersey's best restaurant secret.
My husband and I enjoyed a night without our kids at Val's. My scallops, veggies and baked potato were delish, my husband enjoyed his crab topped salmon. We split the apple struesel cheesecake, which was to die for!!! I always ask if bell peppers are in the crab cakes, which I was informed they were. I would love to find a quality crabcake without the pepper filler- just crab- just a recommendation! We will be back!!!
Hello MK........Thanks for the very nice review! Our server made a mistake when describing the crab cakes…. Val does not put bell peppers in them. The server MAY have been thinking of the Crab Imperial which does have roasted red peppers. We are currently retraining the server with electro shock therapy to make sure this never happens again ! only kidding…. She’s off today so therapy starts Wednesday. 😉 I’m still kidding…. But not about the crab cakes…. They’re really good… I hope you’ll give them a try next time. Thanks again for eating at our restaurant !
